Abstract:I will start with an Overview, and point out why platforms are critical in today's economy; Next, I will describe some key features of platforms and two-sided markets; Then I will focus on my own publications in this area (about 9 papers so far), a few works in progress and some failed projects.
Introduction to the speaker:
Liu Qihong is a full professor (tenured) in the Department of Economics at the University of Oklahoma. He received his Ph.D. in Economics from the State University of New York in 2003. His main research areas are platforms and two-sided markets, the airline industry, and pricing strategies. He has published more than 30 papers in journals such as Review of Economics and Statistics, Strategic Management Journal, Marketing Science, Management Science, European Economic Review, International Journal of Industrial Organization, Journal of Economics & Management Strategy, Journal of Industrial Economics, and Quarterly Journal of Economics. His research is funded by the US Department of Agriculture and cited by mainstream media such as Bloomberg, Forbes, Harvard Business Review, Insider Higher Ed, Kellogg Insight, MorningStar, and Wall Street Journal. He is currently the deputy editor-in-chief of Information Economics and Policy and Journal of Media Economics, and an editorial board member of Marketing Science and Journal of Media Economics. He serves as the president of the Chinese Economists Society (2022-2023) and the guest editor of the special issue of China Economic Review.
