Speaker's Profile:

Professor Yao Shujie, the director of the Li Anmin Institute of Economics at Liaoning University, is a senior professor and the vice chairperson of the 10th Academic Committee of Liaoning University (2023-). He is also the secretary-general of the Urbanization and Regional Innovation Pole Development Research Center, a Distinguished Professor of the Yangtze River Scholars Program, and a National Distinguished Professor at Chongqing University. He graduated from Hainan University with a bachelor's degree and obtained a master's and a doctoral degree in economics from the University of Manchester in the UK. He was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Oxford. In 2014, he returned to China full-time to serve as the deputy director of the Social Sciences Department at Chongqing University. He was the founding dean and professor of the School of Contemporary Chinese Studies and the Confucius Institute at the University of Nottingham in the UK. He has served as an economic advisor to international organizations such as the World Bank and the United Nations, and has worked and conducted research in over 20 countries in Europe, Africa, and Asia. He was the president of the British Chinese Economic Society from 1997 to 1998. Since 2012, he has served as a senior advisor for China's soft science. In 2021, he was appointed as the chairperson of the Chongqing Higher Education Economics Undergraduate Education Guidance Committee. In 2021, he was awarded the title of Chongqing Talent - Outstanding Scientist.

He has published over 200 papers in renowned academic journals both at home and abroad, including the Journal of Political Economy and Economic Research (14 articles). He has authored or co-authored 21 books in Chinese and English with major publishers. He has also contributed over 100 articles to mainstream media such as Financial Times, People's Daily, Guangming Daily, Reference News, and People's Forum. He is a special commentator for CGTN and CGTN Radio, and has had many discussions with former national leaders such as Jiang Zemin, Hu Jintao, Wen Jiabao, Wang Qishan, and Liu Yandong. He serves as an editorial board member for several SSCI/CSSCI journals, including Economic Research, and is the chief editor of Digital Economy.
