Wing Thye Woo is currently a full-time professor at the Institute of Chinese Economy, Liaoning University. He holds a Ph.D. from Harvard University and is a professor emeritus at the University of California, Davis. He also serves as the Regional Vice Chair of the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) in Asia and is a visiting professor at Fudan University, the University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and the University of Malaya. Professor Woo is a leading expert in the economies of China, Indonesia, and Malaysia. His current research focuses on efficient and equitable paths to achieving sustainable development goals, including green finance, the middle-income trap, decarbonization pathways, biodiversity conservation, productivity improvement of small and medium-sized enterprises, and the global economic architecture in a multipolar world. He has a high academic reputation in the fields of economics and finance with multiple influential books and approximately 180 papers published in international authoritative journals such as the American Economic Review, Journal of International Economics, Journal of Money, Credit and Banking, and Journal of International Money and Finance. One of his papers was selected as one of the 25 most influential papers in the 30-year history of the Journal of International Economics.
In addition, Professor Woo has served as an academic advisor for several international academic journals. He is the editor-in-chief of Asian Economic Papers and Journal of Chinese Economic and Business Studies, and the deputy editor-in-chief of Journal of Asian Economics. He has held research positions at numerous universities, research institutions, and international organizations around the world, providing valuable decision-making advice and suggestions to the governments of many countries and international institutions on macroeconomics, foreign exchange management, state-owned enterprise restructuring, trade issues, and the development of the financial sector.
